Agápe Retreat Center
The Agápe Retreat Center is situated on 32 acres of wooded ravines. There are plenty of places to explore on and off the beaten paths.
The spring brings out multiple varieties of wildflowers. You can learn to identify plants, trees, and birds as you observe the beauty of the natural setting. It helps if you bring along your favorite guidebook and binoculars.
The outdoor sports areas are located along the creek where there is a Volleyball court, two tetherball rings, a horseshoe court, and a play gym for the younger members of your group. If you really want to test your throwing skills, horseshoes is quite a challenge. Up above by the Hope Cottage there is a large field. You can use it for whatever field sport suits your group. Baseball, softball, soccer, croquet, bocce ball, football, frisbee golf, or kick ball -- all can be played in this size area.
Everyone will enjoy a stop by the pond. A great place to sit on the dock, reflect on the surroundings and feed the goldfish -- there are plenty to go around.
Campfire rings and worship areas are available for your convenience. Firewood will be found stacked nearby or if you choose, you can gather some from the floor of the forest. No chainsaws please. Scouts under proper supervision will be able to practice their knife and axe skills in designated areas.
Come out to Agápe Retreat Center in the fall to have that last cookout of the season or to kick-off your group's fall schedule as you gear up for the busy-ness of school and upcoming holidays.
Winter can be a special time at Agápe Retreat Center. When the snow covers the ground, the terrain takes on a whole new look and the deer tracks become a tangled web of trails criss-crossing the ground. It is the best time to gather around the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea.
Agápe Retreat Center is available year round to help facilitate your group's meeting and retreating needs. Generally, we are closed from Christmas to the end of January. Any group interested in booking during that time may call us for availabilty. We base our decisions on weather and access conditions at the Center. Access to the Agápe Lodge is difficult and sometimes impossible due to ice and snow.
Agápe Lodge is the largest retreat building at the Agápe Retreat Center. The lodge consists of three dorm rooms, two lofts, a gathering room with large wood burning fireplace, a dining room for up to 50 people, a kitchen, and two private bathrooms with showers.
This is the perfect place to bring your group for a weekend retreat. Move in your food and your gear and make yourselves at home. The gathering room or the dining room can serve as meeting space or just a place to relax and talk. For indoor recreation, the building has a TV/VCR/DVD player, tournament hockey table, and a bumper pool table.
Faith Lodge is the next largest retreat building at the Agápe Retreat Center. The lodge consists of two dorm rooms, a gathering room with a wood burning stove, a dining room for up to 16 people, a kitchen, and a private bathroom with shower.
This is a cozy and comfortable retreat space. From the dining room, you have a scenic view up the ravine where you can watch for wildlife, especially birds. Several varieties of woodpeckers call Agápe home and at night you can hear owls and wild turkeys. In March and April, the turkey buzzards roost in the pine trees next to Faith Lodge.
Fern Cottage is located down the hill from Agápe Lodge. You will see it first as you cross the foot bridge. It is a cozy cabin with sleeping accomodations for two to five people. There is a small kitchen and private bath with shower. An inviting deck and front porch offers a quiet setting to watch the Gazebo and sports areas. Here you are close enough to hear the water cascading over the rocks under the footbridge. (Unfortunately, the Fern Cottage is closed for repair until further notice.)
The Pines Area
If you continue up the path above Agápe Lodge you will pass Pine Cottage. Above Pine Cottage is The Pines Area. This is the area that has been timbered and we are preparing for reforestation. Before you know it, pine seedlings will be well on their way to maturity. With some time and help, we hope to have areas where you can pitch a tent under an unobstructed night sky, perfect for stargazers.
Hope Cottage is the current office and on-site residence for the site manager and family. It is located across the ravine to the east of Agápe Lodge. You may need to look for the site manager in the cottage if he or she cannot be found out and about on the grounds.
Thank you for taking this virtual tour of Agápe Retreat Center. Please come visit us at camp to get a real feel of this place apart from the high-tech life. You will have the opportunity to be refreshed by the peaceful surroundings of Agápe Retreat Center. Please remember the hikers code: take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
